Macchiato
The Macchiato word means “marked” or “stained” and in its traditional form, is an espresso with a dash of milk and foam.
There are two main variations of the Macchiato:
1-The more traditional variation which is a “Caffe Macchiato”: an espresso with a dash of milk
2- The modern variation called “Latte Macchiato” which combines an espresso with steamed milk. In the past decade, the Caramel Macchiato became a popular drink with some bigger coffee chains. This is mainly a modern type macchiato with caramel syrup on top of the milk foam.
Workflow
Brew ratio: For the “Latte Macchiato” aim for a 1:1 espresso to milk ratio (in weight) with a small milk foam layer where latte art is poured into.
